Eastern Tent Caterpillar Cocoons

Malacosoma americanum

Description:

White cocoons

Habitat:

Found on the metal roof of my workshop.

Notes:

These cocoons have been appearing everywhere. I assumed they were the eastern tent caterpillar. The other day I was blowing the leaves off of my workshop roof. The cocoons were under the leaf litter. Some were under construction. First photo on the left. The caterpillar was disturbed by the leaf blower and started crawling out of the partially finished cocoon. Second photo. Many cocoons were blown away but lots were still there when I was done.
