Cape Turtle Dove

Streptopelia capicola

Description:

Also known as Ring-necked Dove, this is a small dove, smaller than feral pigeon, pale grey with narrow black collar. All those I observed in Namibia has a blackish stripe between the base of the bill and the eye.

Habitat:

Observed in Kunene region, an arid region northwest of Namibia; and observed almost everywhere, near and far away from settlements... These doves, with starlings, were the most ubiquitous birds we saw. The environment is arid open acacia tree-and-shrub or open woodland, very dry (but still magnificent and rich in wildlife) at the moment, following a three-year dry-spell
