Turtle, freshwater

Description:

Spotted in a small pond on a night walk in the rain forest. I believe it is a species of side-necked turtle. They are called so because they retract their heads into their shells in a sideways, horizontal manner rather than the more common S-shaped retraction of most turtles.

Habitat:

Freshwater
