Lampona eats Badumna

Lampona sp. versus Badumna longinquis

Habitat:

This habitat is a sun-drenched fibro wall on an old garage. The walls are surrounded by large potted Bromeliads and the whole yard is kept with as little disturbance as possible. There is regular water and plenty of cover. Suburban beach suburb behind coastal sand-dunes with salt laden winds.

Notes:

The Badumna species seem to be as popular a species for predation as gazelle or rabbits. The Lampona (White-tailed Spider) may spend a whole day or more in a slow danse macabre setting themselves up for the kill. The prey will often become an unwilling partner in the dance trying to manoeuvre their way to a position where they can escape past the White-tailed aggressor. The Badumna in these images had seen the hunter approaching and tried everything from hiding to threats but was overpowered after about an hour
