Red-shouldered Hawk

Buteo lineatus

Description:

This hawk caught a glass lizard and was enjoying it until some mockingbirds came over and started making a racket. It dropped most of its lunch on the ground, and you can see it looking for it in photo 5. It continued eating the small bit it had until the mockingbird in the last photo came and harassed the hawk enough to make it leave.

Habitat:

Suburban neighborhood

Notes:

I was worried it was eating the black racer that I normally see in my yard, but thankfully I saw the snake right next to me when I took some photos of the hawk.

Looks like a glass lizard, not a snake. Awesome to see though!
