A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Pristaulacus fasciatus
Black, shining, with iridescent blue wings and a golden bar or patch on the front wing. Females with long, sinuous ovipositor.
Suburban habitat on western fringe of eastern deciduous forest. I have observed at least three individual females crawling over a pile of log sections cut from a huge, fallen limb off a Pin Oak tree in our front yard. The cut wood has attracted hosts of this parasitoid wasp in the form of longhorned beetles and jewel beetles.
These are common, but rarely-seen wasps, except in circumstances such as described in habitat.
