Black Vine Weevil

Otiorhynchus sulcatus

Description:

A female black vine weevil at the local Garden Center. Black vine weevils are pretty constant garden pests. They feed on Rhododendron, Begonia, and other species of garden plant. They're native to Europe but have been introduced elsewhere. The reason I note it as female is because black vine weevils reproduce by parthenogenesis, and no males have been discovered.

Habitat:

Native to Europe, introduced elsewhere.
