Interesting spider egg sacks being guarded by mom in a funnel like web above my garage door. Best picture i could get of mom without seriously bothering the nest.

That looks about right. Thanks Aaron. now I'm really glad I didnt mess with the nest to much... I was using my finger. :)
Im a little surprised, as she is really out in the open above my garage. I have always seen the black widows and (occasionally) brown widows in dark and secluded areas.

Those little brown paper-looking bumpy egg sacs are indicative of the brown widow. I can also see distinct leg banding on the spider in your second image.
