Cinnabar-red polypore

Pycnoporus cinnabarinus

Description:

One of the only bright orange polypore fungi.The underside is an even deeper shade of orange. Beginners sometimes mistake this species for chicken of the woods.

Habitat:

Fallen log (I think oak?) on a sandy trail near the county dump. Eagle Snag Trail
