Chinese Mantid Nymph

Tenodera aridifolia sinensis

Description:

Older nymph. Solid green, long thin legs with modified front legs for grabbing and holding prey.

Habitat:

Suburban backyard garden.

Notes:

Watched these guys all summer as I scouted around the gardens in the backyard. Introduced and established species.

Hema, I wish I had. I tried to watch them but they were very shy and would run and hide when I got too near. It required some gentle encouragement to get them to come out for photos. I was hoping to catch one of them hunting but I was not that lucky. I have seen mantids hunt and find it amazing. Maybe next Spring/Summer I'll catch one in the act!
