Alcelaphus buselaphus caama
The red hartebeest (Alcelaphus buselaphus caama) is a species[3] of even-toed ungulate in the Bovidae family. It is found in Southern Africa. There are more than 130,000 individuals left
The red hartebeest Alcelaphus buselaphus caama is primarily found in southwestern Africa. Southern Africa's dissected topography, geologic diversity, climate oscillations and mosaic of distinct vegetation types has been the primary means for radiation and diversification amidst hartebeest species, which has led red hartebeests to vary slightly in their capacity to consume the diet they do.[11] Most ungulates in Africa are nomadic, as they are dependent on a food source that becomes depleted if they stay in one place. A. buselaphus live in herds and dwelling in open plains and scrublands in sub-Saharan climate.[4]

Thanks Ash!!
That is so cool! Our last morning when we were driving out of Kruger, we saw a bunch of stopped cars so we asked what they were looking at. Apparently a leopard had just killed a vervet monkey and was taking it into the trees to eat it and 3 hyenas were following him, trying to steal the monkey. And we missed it all by about 2 minutes. Most disappointing thing ever haha. I hope you continue to see lots of cool things and have your camera with you so you can share them with all of us :)
There are so many places to see here and so Diverse too! Each state/ province has something totally different to offer! I was able to catch two male lions in sep last year, such a great moment! On my trip last week, my friends got to see a Caracal, such a rare spotting where I am, flip I was teaming with Jealousy especially because I was so close by!
Yea everyone else in my group thought they were really ugly and make fun of me for loving them so much, but I just think they are so pretty! I can't wait to get back to S Africa, maybe next time you can show me around! Do you see cats very often? We didn't see any the entire two weeks we were there :/
Thanks Ash, really means a lot to me!! Love these guys, especially their horns. I had a hard time with one on my last journey, I got in between him and his watering hole on his path and he got fairly aggressive, haha he must have been really thirsty!
Great shots Jared! These were my favorite from when I visited S. Africa, you got way better shots than I did :) They are so beautiful!
Thanks very much Maria, yip she is a beauty!
Nice series of this antelope!
