Membracis mexicana
A spectacular Treehopper species that is dark brown and yellow with a white caudal spot on the pronotum and white eyes. It was found on a tree with dark green and yellow leaves and was well camouflaged. The nymphs were white with large black dorsal spines. Many egg masses were also present (5th picture). The nymphs tended to be congregated at the bases of the leaf petioles where there was a dense pubescence. The adults were about 5 mm in length. Family Membracidae.
The host tree (last picture) was growing right on the beach along the gulf coast, in a small fishing village called Champotón.
