spotted dove

Steptopelia chinensis

Description:

Blank nape with white spots. Light gray with dull brown plumage. Black bill, red legs. White edge on tip of outer tail feathers that is apparent during flight.

Habitat:

Spotted doves occur in forests, parks and cityscapes throughout Hong Kong and surrounding areas.

Notes:

This dove was spotted on a rainy day at the edge of Zoological and Botanical Gardens on Hong Kong Island. I think many bird nerds turn their noses up at spotted doves which is unfortunate because they are quite beautiful.
