Pinewoods Tree Frog

Hyla femoralis

Description:

approx. 2 inches long

Habitat:

spotted on privacy fence in residential backyard

Notes:

A friend emailed me this picture of this unusual red frog with black 'tiger' stripes that he found in his backyard. I thought it might be a Cuban tree frog because of their color-changing abilities, but couldn't find an example of this color.

Take a bow, Jeffery Duby! Thank you for the perfect ID. I have used the UF Wildlife site many times and somehow overlooked this species. It wasn't until I did an image search that I found a red individual. Thanks again.

Appreciate your input, Neil. I have updated the ID. These frogs are known for their color-changing ability, but this is the first red one I've encountered.

I think you are right about it being a Cuban tree frog. The warty skin is common in this species.
