Description:

One of 5 sub-species of tortoise endemic to Isabela, the Sierra Negra tortoise became endangered as a result of introduced species such as goats & rats damaging eggs, & local people harvesting them as food. The tortoise breeding center is successfully breeding all 5 sub-species & reintroducing them, & also educating the local community.
