Megadyptes antipodes
The Yellow-Eyed penguin or Hoiho, is an endangered species of penguin (population estimated to be 4000) characterized by the yellow band stretching from eye to eye. It is medium-sized, spanning from 24-31 inches in length, and is mainly piscivorous.
Spotted preening itself in the bushes near an ocean/ sea life viewing site in Oamaru, New Zealand. It was surprisingly close to the path, yet people kept walking by without noticing it, complaining, "Where are all the penguins?". Yellow-Eyed penguins are native to New Zealand as well as surrounding smaller islands.
Fun Fact: A yellow-eyed penguin is on the New Zealand $5 note
