Great Egret

Ardea alba

Description:

Large white wading bird. Very long neck and legs. Yellowish-orange bill, black legs. Slighty slimmer and smaller than the Great Blue Heron. Hunts by standing still or wading very slowly then jabbing prey quickly with the bill.

Habitat:

Man-made freshwater lagoons.

Notes:

We saw many of these while visiting family on Hilton Head Island, SC.
