One of the thistles. Flowers typically on single stem. Upright, maroon flowers tipped with white.

Habitat:

Open woodland area in east-central Georgia. Deciduous southern forest.

Notes:

I'd love to know the species of Thistle. Unfortunately, this is the only shot that I have of the plant.
