Slimy Salamander

Plethodon glutinosus

Description:

Can be black to blueish black white white or gold speckling. Goes to 7 inches in length. This salamander lives in moist, undisturbed woodlands and moist wooded ravines. Males have a mental gland on chin which females lack. When threaten the slimy salamander secrets a glue like substance that is this and hard to get off. There is no aquatic stage for this salamander they hatch into fully developed salamander.

Found on a rocky hill side under rock
