Common mynah

Acridotheres tristis

Description:

I got so excited when I spotted this bird (soon realising they are everywhere) as it is one of those species I remember from nature documentaries when little due to their extreme vocalisation skills - which is also why they are popular pets in certain areas of the world. Common mynahs are part of the starling family, native to Asia. They are easily identified by the black hood, the distinctive yellow (bare) patch behind the eye and the white patches on the outer primaries (and wing lining on the underside - more easily seen when in flight).

Habitat:

Unfortunately the Common Mynah has proven to be somewhat of a pest in countries like Australia due to the extreme rapidness to which they have increased their range.
