Lantern Bug

Pyrops lautus

Description:

Lantern Bugs, they looks quite the same (Pic #1) but are of different species. This Spotting is for Pyrops lautus (on the left in Pic #1). Pyrops lautus is slightly smaller in size than Pyrops polillensis with a much clearer difference in the snout, which is actually the extended mouth part. Pyrops polillensis has a much bluer snout with a spotted tip.

Habitat:

Tropical forest

Notes:

During this trip, saw more than 10 of them in total, initially didn't realised there were 2 different species, so not able to recall how many of each species.
