Clitocybe clavipes

Ampulloclitocybe clavipes

Description:

club-shaped stipe with gills extending down the stipe, fawn-grey cap with slightly lighter edges, cap darker in the center, flatter when young but turning up around the edges as it ages. The only thing that is not perfect for the clitocybe ID is the huge size of these mushrooms. They were 6 - 8 inches across, with the stipe varying from 3 - 5 inches high.

Habitat:

Found growing in 2 clusters under a cedar tree beside my garden compost. Pacific northwest temperate rainforest climate.

Notes:

Quite long-lasting, gradually disintegrating in the rainy cold December days.

Thanks, Maria and Maribel! I put my folding umbrella next to these and they were about half as wide as its length!

I am hoping that some of our mushroom experts will correct me if this is not the right ID! Thanks!
