This small deep brown weevil was about 5 mm long. It had a lighter shade of brown along the shoulders and at the apices of a deeply ridged elytra. The beetle was covered with short stiff hairs. The rostrum pointed downwards and antennae rose from the distal part of the rostrum.
Spotted on a fresh young shoot of a eucalyptus tree - probably yellow box in a suburban garden.
Not able to find an ID for this weevil but will keep looking.
Family: Curculionidae
Tribe: Cryptoplini
