Gasteracantha doriae
Spider of some description.
Found in my garden in the hills above Bandung, Indonesia.
I had to crop the pictures and I had to add light to them ... my camera is not well suited to this type of photography.
Haha get used to it! Spiders are awesome! Glad you share that "addiction" with me. :)
:) thank you all :)
The other photo of a similar spider was taken by my hubby and all I know is that they were the same size.
I am sadly becoming a spider addict much to the chagrin of some of my family hahaha
If you are collecting images around Bandung, perhaps you would like to join the 'Wild Bandung' mission.

Gasteracantha fornicata, spiny orbweaver, is very similar too and I have found this in Bandung. But I think the linked image of Doria's spider is a better match. Also found in W.Java.

Glad I helped mrs squirrel! I noticed that some of the differences between G.cancriformis and G.fornicata is the width of the abdomen, as as you can see, your species has a wide abdomen unlike G.cangriformis, so I agree with your guesses of this species. Hope I help! :)
Thanks Phillip... I have been researching a bit and I wonder if it might be this >
gasteracantha fornicata
looking at the pictures they seem very similar and I am far from being a specialist.
