Description:

Medium-sized social wasp, highly variable in coloration and markings.

Habitat:

Found this specimen nectaring on flowers by the side of the road on a south-facing slope in a dry canyon dominated by oak trees.

Notes:

This species has in the past been considered a subspecies of Polistes fuscatus.
