Wood Stork

Mycteria americana

Description:

Large long legged bird. Naked head and upper part of neck. Mostly white plumage with extensive black flight feathers. Some black on tail. Long, thick bill that downcurves. Found in swamps and shallow pools where it forages for fish and other prey creatures often by walking with it's bill in the water.

Habitat:

Man-made freshwater lagoon

Notes:

The Wood Storks were less concerned about the humans watching them than the rest of the birds and continued feeding and ignoring us. Observed in the company of herons, egrets and ibis.
