Description:

Large, robust robber fly, its buzzing flight often heard before the fly is seen.

Habitat:

Open clearing adjacent to road bordering deciduous forest with glades.

Notes:

The prey here is a dung beetle of some sort (family Scarabaeidae). Specific location is one edge of the Lynx Prairie Preserve in Adams County.
