Description:

This moth is about 1.5 inches long. I spotted it at night next to a street lamp.

Habitat:

Tropical dry forest in NW Costa Rica 4 months into the 6 month rainy season.

Nice spotting Larry! This one has a cream colored head and "pompom" in the middle of its "back." This has not yet been specified as a species in Costa Rica, but has several specimens on BOLD Systems under Norape Janzen02, and is under research to find out whether it is a new species, or a variable relative of a previously documented species. It may end up being a variation of Norape virgo, which now is thought to only be north of you, but maybe it has a more southern distribution than we think.
