Purple Heart Plant

Trandescantia pallida

Description:

Family: Commelinaceae ( Spiderwort ) Trandescantia pallida ( Purple Heart Plant ), is a species of spiderwort. Attractive, purple-leafed, foot tall, purple-pink, three-pedaled, six stamened flowers. It has rich, purple, lance-shaped leaves. Dark purple on top of the leaf, and medium purple, on the bottom of the leaf. This dark purple plant, was growing along the ground. The anthers, were yellow in color.

Habitat:

I found this dark purple plant, growing along the ground, in the woods.

Notes:

I went into the woods, to look for insects and flowers to photograph. After walking for a while, I came upon a small clearing, next to a wooded area. I saw a dark purple plant, that was growing along the ground. The leaves were dark purple, and it had tiny, purple-pink flowers on the plant. The plant was about one foot high. The top of the leaves, were dark purple in color, and the bottom of the leaves, were medium purple in color. The flowers had three petals. The anthers, were yellow in color.
