red-whiskered bulbul

Pycnonotus jocosus

Description:

Erect black crown. Black head, bill and legs. Black mustache stripe. White cheeks and throat. Red coverts. Brown upperparts, to tail tipped with white. Underparts pale brown with red-orange vent.

Habitat:

Extremely common bird in Hong Kong, found in forests, parks, and urban landscapes.

Notes:

Spotting a new bird is a great Christmas present. My wife and I decided to go for a morning walk in Kowloon Park on Christmas morning. That morning we also spotted Chinese bulbul and Oriental magpie robin.
