Chinese banyan

Ficus microcarpa

Description:

Bark= gray in color. Leaves = elliptical and mildly pointed, about 4 inches long. "A large tree with many aerial roots, and grows a single major trunk which quickly divides into multiple branch-trunks that arch up and contribute to a broad canopy. In moist areas the main trunk is surrounded by smaller accessory trunks that grow from aerial roots". (http://www.bonsaihunk.us/info/ChineseBan...)

Habitat:

The Chinese Banyan originates from Southeast Asia, and exists from India to Borneo. This one is climbing out of the city, trying to take it back.

Notes:

One of the things I love about Hong Kong is that the city seems to built around the jungle. Between buildings, in medians, even growing out of walls you'll see these giant banyan trees. Definitely gives the city a exotic jungle flavor.
