Eastern Rosella

Platycercus eximius

Description:

Several of these were feeding on close-cut grass on a sports field. The colours always impress me.

Habitat:

Public parkland on sports field.

Notes:

Very wary birds - they don't allow close shots and panic easily in flocks. It was difficult to determine what they were picking out of the ground.

They are gorgeous. My grandfather had one as a pet when I was a kid (he'd had it since God was a boy) - it was really friendly and would bob up and down and grumble when you'd come to feed it. It was named Birdus McBird.
