Townsend's chipmunk

Neotamias townsendii

Description:

Townsend's Chipmunks are omnivorous, eating a variety of plants and insects and even birds' eggs. This one has a mouth full of green plants - so I'm not sure if this is food or nest building materials. It's home was under the stump of an upturned tree, which it ran into and never came back out.

Habitat:

Spotted at the edge of a forest at the Mima Mounds Preserve.
