Armillaria luteobubalina
A mass of fruiting bodies in all sorts of mushroom shapes spilling from the dead tree. Dry velvety surfaces mostly
Two meters from the shores of the estuary on a sandy, salt water lagoon. Growing from a Casuarina that had died
I wasn't going to present any more fungi because they are so difficult to identify without sniffing and touching and a microscope etc but the spotting is an amazing outcrop

ScottRassmussen. Wow they really are large flowerings. I wonder how much of a pest these will become
We get some major fruitings of Honey fungus here in the U.S. too. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/695...
Scott Rasmussen. it is the Australian Honey Fungus. Armillaria luteobubalina. The links tell the story. Thanks for the lead
I rarely venture into IDing fungi from photos, but I remembered that there was an Armillaria that was causing problems in Australia.
Thanks ScottRasmussen. I think I agree. A little more research to go I think. http://www.dpi.vic.gov.au/agriculture/pe...
Looks like an Armillaria. This one is found in NSW: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armillaria_...
