Hetaerina americana
Large damselfly, males with bright red spot at base of wings.
Perched on trail near a fast-flowing stream. Males normally perch on vegetation overhanging streams and rivers. Typical riparian corridor for this situation, with abundant cottonwoods and elm trees.
Females are duller in color, but still have the amber wings with a flush of red at the base.
