Oceanic Manta Ray

Manta birostris

Description:

10 to 15 foot wide by 8 to 12 foot long (not including barbed tail. Mostly black with white underside, not visible from pics.

Habitat:

Observed in Boynton Inlet while tide was slightly entering the the inlet. Current was lower than normal. Rays were in a school of 10 to 12 members spread out under the State Route A1A bridge over the inlet. They were facing the incoming current "filtering" the water through their moths while "hovering" below me.

Notes:

Not certain of species of Manta however based on size, location of observation and color I have chosen M. birostis.
