Description:

Daphnia with a cluster of protozoans, Vorticella, attached. The Vorticella are not parasitic but are only using the Daphnia as a place to anchor while they feed.

Habitat:

Shallow pond in rural SW Pennsylvania

Notes:

Daphnia are often used as food for small tropical fish.
