Yellow-bellied Prinia

Prinia flaviventris

Description:

This small Prinia (Prinia flaviventris) is a close relative of Tailorbirds that are also found here. This diurnal species was sleeping while perching on a grass stem which is typical of this species. They are not trying to escape when they are awakened, that allowed us to get close to photograph them.

Habitat:

On the bushes beside the main road to Maliau Basin Study Centere. The Birds Of Borneo Field Guide also mentioned that these birds are commonly seen in the bushes beside the roads.

Notes:

We spotted 3 of this species sleeping the same way during our night walk activity. The rangers told us that these are Ashy Tailorbirds but I doubt that because this looks more like a Prinia. >>>Map accuracy : 5km diameter.
