Description:

This common grass brown butterfly is very prolific over summer. Before December there are only males and about now the females are emerging. This discordant appearances of the sexes is uncommon among butterflies but ensures that only the strongest (or longer lived, or later emergent) males get to reproduce.

Habitat:

Larvae feed on native grasses.
