Description:

Also known as Turk's cap or Cardinal's hat, this plant is closely related to hibiscus but its buds never open.

Habitat:

Seen in World Botanical Gardens.

Notes:

Native to the southeastern US, Mexico, and South and Central Americas.

Hmm, it looks like M. arboreus has shorter buds, and that my spotting has longer ones, making it more likely M. penduliflorus. How else can I tell the two species apart?

NatralList, I'm not sure which of the two species the spotting most closely resembles.
