Ring-billed Gull

Larus delawarensis

Description:

Young Ring-billed Gulls

Habitat:

Everywhere in this park: the sky, the road, the grass

Notes:

People feed the waterfowl food at this park. The Ring-billed Gulls know it and make sure they're around should food start to fly. Unfortunately this area has heavy traffic driving through it so you see many Canadian Geese with broken wings and other injuries. Also people usually feed the birds: crackers, bread, cereal and anything else they can think of other than something that might be healthier for the birds like whole kernel corn or cracked corn. I've even seen Gulls eat already chewed gum and other stuff they really should not be eating. I love being able to go to the rookery and see the birds there but usually end up leaving very sad.
