Looks like Fomes fasciatus, a species of Tinder fungus.

I'm right there with you! I've taken lots of pictures and failed to get the "diagnostic" features.

@ Marcus. No I never Marcus. We were walking down a Forest trail when I spotted these. At the time we were in a hurry to get to the Beach! The Ocean was calling me! I wasn't a member of PN then. So I wasn't thinking of ID.... just a quick pretty picture. lol.
I will always have this in mind from now on though. :)

I don't know a whole lot about mushrooms, but I think one of the ways to tell if it's Turkey Tail is to look at the underside. Did you happen to get any pictures of the underside?
