Check on the range of Orthemis discolor - India has several dragonflies that are very similar to ours in the Americas, but different of course. That makes the hunt fun. Face and thorax photos are always helpful for ID. Good luck :)
It looks like a Carmine Skimmer (Orthemis discolor) but I'm not sure, do you have a picture of its face?
