Description:

Medium-large, fuzzy yellow fly with stout proboscis. Perching on foliage and logs in sunny spots in understory of Ponderosa Pine forest. Elevation over 6,500 ft.

Habitat:

Understory of Ponderosa Pine forest at elevation of over 6,000 ft.

Notes:

Behaves like a flycatcher bird, scanning sky for other insects passing overhead. It flies out, grabs its prey, and returns to its perch to eat.
