American kestrel

Falco sparverius

Description:

A small falcon; this one is a female.

Habitat:

This one was a wildlife rescue; they were sheltering her until her tail feathers came back in. I believe she came from the Willamette Valley of Oregon.

Notes:

Despite being a wild bird only temporarily in a shelter, this bird was remarkably quiet around people. It's not hard to see the potential relationship between falcons and people.
