A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
oh thanks ! I think i'm the first (Kurdish ) person who entered Project Noah. really I have flag, but we can't put it here so that, I suppose to use Iraq flag...anyway I appreciate your helping me to identify the ID of this beetle. we have many species of any creatures (Plants-Animals) . if you had time read a bit of KURDISTAN (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurdistan).
Hi, sorry I forgot to welcome you on Project Noah!! It is important that we have the correct location, so, please, just move your flag to the area where you found it by editing the spotting, as well add the corresponding name. I hope we see a lot of other nice species from you and from this until now "empty" space on the map!
Actually I took this photo in ( Sulaimany City - Kurdistan region of Iraq or south Kurdistan ). I couldn't locate this place on the map, so that I supposed to chose Baghdad to have ability to upload my photo.
Meloidae, Mylabris sp. or today called Hycleus sp.. Unfortunately there are too many similar species around and your area is not very good covered in the literature. I found even in Kasachstan at least 7 similar ones! So I would go with Hycleus sp. and mention the Mylabris sp. in the description. Closest guess would be Hycelus scabiosae:
