Northern Cardinal

Description:

To many within its range, the northern cardinal is a familiar, crested songbird. Males are a brilliant red. Females are brownish or grayish tan with a reddish tinge. This bird's orange red bill is distinctive. Size: 8.75 inches.

Habitat:

This bird breeds in an array of habitats with shrubs and small trees, including forests, woodlands, marsh and stream edges, hedgerows around agricultural fields, parks, and gardens.
