Clear-winged Grasshopper

Camnula pellucida

Description:

Medium-sized grasshopper, generally non-descript, but usually with "leopard spots" on front wings.

Habitat:

Found this one at over 8,000 ft. elevation along a roadside near a gold mine. Native habitat is grassy meadows amid mixed conifers and occasional aspen.

Notes:

This species can be so abundant as to be a pest in some years. It can be found from prairies to peaks.
