Bird's Nest Fungi

Nidula sp.

Description:

Tiny, goblet-shaped fungi with dark brown to black eggs. I’m guessing most eggs were dispersed when Hurricane Irma came inland recently. This specimen was pretty dried up from what I could tell. I'm thinking Nidula candida, but I'm not quite sure.

Habitat:

At the bottom of two ridges in a floodplain. Growing from a rotten log.

Notes:

Some of the remaining eggs can be seen if you look closely at some of the photos here. :)
