This is growing from a pine snag, and was hard as a rock even when young, which leads me to believe otherwise. Here is my posting of same specimen at earlier stage, http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/138..., if it will help.
This looks like a very old Chicken of the Woods - Laetiporus Sulphureus
